The Clothes Horse Fashion Event

So here are some of the first photos from our fashion event yesterday! The Clothes Horse team had a really fantastic time and we hope everyone else did too! We'd like to thank everyone who came yesterday, and everyone who made our wonderful event possible. Catwalk looks will follow later on this week, but for now there's a few backstage shots as a preview!

Let Them Eat Cake

The night before our event the Clothes Horse team and our friends got together for a four-hour baking sessions to make lots of lovely cupcakes to sell for charity! Transforming flat 3's kitchen at UCA's Woodcote Halls into a bakery, we baked and decorated over 150 cupcakes to sell to guests at our event.

You'll have to come along if you want to try them and trust us, they are delicious!

Getting to Clothes Horse

The event is only 2 days away now, and to make sure everyone knows how to find us, here is some information on getting there:

The address for the racecourse is:

You will find us in the Queen's stand on the third floor.

If you are driving:

Below is a map from UCA on Ashley Road to the racecourse. You can view it with directions here. Parking is free at the racecourse and there are around 400 spaces.

If you are coming by train:

The closest station to the racecourse is Tattenham Corner station which is about a 1/2 mile walk from the racecourse. Alternatively, both Epsom Downs station and Epsom station are very close, but will require a taxi journey to the racecourse.

If you are coming by bus:

The 460 bus from Epsom high street stops right outside the racecourse and runs at these times:

17:07 - 17:37 - 18:07 - 18:37 - 19:00 - 20:00

If you are taking a taxi:

Epsom Cars will charge £5 or less from Epsom high street to the raceourse. Their phone number is 01372 727727.

Entry is free and no ticket is required. However we will be welcoming donations on the door to support our two charities, Barnardo's and The Diamond Centre. We look forward to seeing you there!

River Island styling

Yesterday afternoon we went to River Island in Westfield to pick out the clothes for our fashion show! We had a fabulous day and with the help of stylist Alexis Knox, we pulled some really fantastic looks. We're not giving away too much though, you'll have to come along to the event to see the final result of our hard work!

The Diamond Centre

Yesterday the Clothes Horse team visited The Diamond Centre, one of the two charities we are raising money for.

The Diamond Centre has been open for nearly 34 years and only teaches disabled riders. They cater for 360 riders a week, ranging from the age of 4 to 66. The centre costs over a quarter of a million pounds to run every year; with no government funding and 280 volunteers a week, without whom they could not operate.

While on our tour of the centre we got to see some of the children practising their riding skills, we met all of their lovely horses and ponies (Marge was our favourite, see below) and saw all the special equipment that is needed to help their students ride safely and successfully.

Due to the equestrian theme that we chose for our event, we really wanted to help a charity involved in riding somehow. Having seen the fantastic work that The Diamond Centre do, and for some many people, we are overjoyed to be raising money for them at the Clothes Horse event on 27th April.

A Day At The Races

Yesterday was the first race meeting of the season at Epsom racecourse, so the Clothes Horse team and our friends decided to go along to enjoy the sun and place a few cheeky bets. It was the first time for betting for all of us, but with the advice of a few seasoned pro's that we got chatting to, and some traditional first-time-betting luck, we just about managed to break even!

We're hoping for equally as lovely weather for our event on Tuesday, and we're looking forward to enjoying the day with all of you!

Best in Show

We've now chosen our favourite models from our model casting we held a few weeks ago. Everyone will star in our catwalk on the day of the Clothes Horse event, modelling River Island clothes and UCA first-year fashion design work. Here are our lucky winners:
